Eastern Shan Hill Tribes Tour – 4 Days

Day 01: Yangon – Fly to Kyaing Tong (Via Mandalay / Heho) (Meal: No)
Our driver will pick you up from your hotel the transfer to the airport for domestic flight to Kyaing Tong via Tachileik.
Arrival late afternoon at Kyaing Tong airport, you are welcomed by our guide and driver then transfer to hotel for checking in. Sightseeing in Kyaing Tong starts with Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, housing Mandalay Style Buddha image.
Then visit Standing Buddha image where Kyaing Tong was founded about one thousand years ago, hot springs, Akha centre village and R.C.M church. Visit to the One Tree Hill where a lone 245-years-old Kanyin-byu tree stands. The tree was planted by Alaungmintaya, the founder of Third Myanmar Empire.

Day 02: Kyaing Tong (Meal: B)
After breakfast, morning visit to water buffalo Market where buyers and sellers stand around seemingly doing nothing. The water buffalos are not found in many countries, the twice weekly market excites considerable interest; take the car about 45 minutes for a trekking tour into the Pin Tauk area. Visit the villages of Akha and Enn tribes. Some are baptized, some tribes still animists. The Enn are an ethnic group which tourists have found particularly interesting labeling them the “Black Teeth”. The walk is not difficult and can be done slowly. They live on the higher slopes. They have distinctively different costumes and beliefs from the other tribes. It will take about 4 hours to visit the villages. Drive back to hotel and leisure.

Day 03: Kyaing Tong (Meal: B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day excursion to Lwe tribe village. Drive about 2 hours on the road to Maila, a border town at the Chinese Border. From there it will take one and half hours hike to Wan Nyunt village, one of the Loi tribe villages. The Loi preferring to live in huge long houses, including at least 5 families. Before visiting the Lois, there is an old monastery, a very beautiful one and very different from the other monasteries. One hour from there is another Loi village (Wan Seng). Scenery is beautiful and trekking is not difficult. Return to Kyaing Tong and free time at your leisure.

Day 04: Kyaing Tong Departure (Meal: B)
Breakfast at hotel. Upon flight time permitting, visit to the colorful local market which is the site for gathering of different clans, each of them in their colorful costumes: any given morning you would see Ahku, Ahka, Palaung, Enn, or Lahu races. Check-out hotel and transfer to Kyaing Tong airport and depart for domestic flight to next destination or drive to Maisai (Thailand) via Tachiliek (border of Myanmar / Thailand) (3 hrs driving) reach for Chaimai.
