Nyaung Shwe
Nyaung Shwe is a small town at the northern end of the Inle Lake. Located at the north end of the lake, the town was once the capital of an important Shan kingdom (the former palace of the saophas, or sky princes, who ruled here is now a museum). Nyaung Shwe is where you will find the best budget and mid-range of accommodation and the most vibrant town atmosphere in the Inle Lake area, with a number of restaurants and bars to enjoy after a day spent on the lake. Even if you do not stay in Nyaung Shwe (there are also luxury hotels around the shores of Inle Lake), you will probably pass through or stop for a drink or meal.
Some of major attractions
Shan Museum – The museum is actually the palace of a Shan chief or sawbwa known as “Sao SHwe Thaike”. He was the last Shan sawbwa. The collection of Shan regalia, photos, are displayed. It is a two-storey building and the house is made of teak with ancient curvings.
Yadana Mann Aung Pagoda – This is the oldest pagoda in Nyaungshwe. The unique step-spired pagoda is an interesting place to visit while you are in town.
Shwe Yaunghew Kyaung – It is an 18th century old monastery which features a vulnerable consecrated hall, with big oval windows.
